I am an Italian citizen and my last child was born in the uk in 1st May 2015. I’ve applied for a child British passport but the passport office refused it because they said I don’t have a residence in the uk even though I have been living in the country for a year and half. I would like some advices concerning the issue and guidance to what to do next because I would like to travel with the child

    Thank you for your enquiry.

In order for your child to qualify for British citizenship you will have to show evidence that you have been exercising treaty rights for a continuous period of 5 years prior to your child’s birth. In order words that you had automatically obtained permanent residence prior to your child’s birth. It looks like you haven’t established this status hence the reason your child’s application failed.
